Installing Gingerbread Voodoo Stock + Ext4 Kernel on your SGS

Samsung still continues to use RFS even after millions of people complaining about lag or slowness on their devices.
François Simond a.k.a supercurio the founder of project-voodoo for Galaxy S devices has created a kernel based on ext4 with custom recovery menu and root(you need to install superuser app from market).
For installing Voodoo Stock + Ext4 Kernel on your SGS running XXJVP-2.3.4 follow the instructions mentioned below:

  1. Have your mobile charged at least 50%(full charge is recommended).
  2. Turn off mobile
  3. Now, enter download mode by pressing volume down + menu button + power button simultaneously.
  4. Download the Gingerbread Voodoo Stock + Ext4 Kernel from here.
  5. Once you are in the download mode now open ODIN(any version will do).
  6. Ensure that you see something written in ID:COM after connecting your device.
  7. Click on PDA and select the downloaded *.tar file.
  8. DO NOT tick Re-Partition.
  9. Check if both Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time are ticked.(both are ticked by default)
  10. Press Start.

Once the kernel is installed your phone will reboot, it will take time the first time as it converts all the partitions to ext4 from RFS.

Enjoy a much faster, smoother and better Samsung Galaxy S!

  1. Hi Gautam!
can you post some screen shots of the said voodoo stock & post some advantage so that we can decide whether to go for it or not. st present i am satisfied with the current gingerbread 2.3.4

  2. @Karthik
Its the same thing as stock firmware, you will not find any visual difference but now your phone will be on Ext4 instead of RFS that Samsung uses.

The advantage is that its much more faster than stock RFS roms.
You will find performance improvements while multitasking..

    Quadrant score is 2000+

  3. @Kashif
Yes, you can upgrade by flashing back to stock rom!
None of ur installed apps will be deleted!
Also you can turn off/on lagfix(conversion to RFS/ext4) by installing voodoo app from market!

I hope that answers all ur questions.
