Skype 2.1 for Android brings video on most of Android devices

On 4th August, Skype released a major update for its Android app.
The Skype app as promised got updated to version 2.1, this update enables video support on 17 additional Android devices.
You can download the updated Skype for Android app from the Android Market or Skype.com/m using your Android phone’s browser.

Bharti Airtel, announced the availability of its 3Ghigh speed mobile internet services in Maharashtra and Goa from 4th of August midnight onwards. Airtel has operations in 19 countries including Asia and Africa. Now, Airtel customers in Maharashtra and Goa will be able to experience the world class Airtel 3G on the move.

Airtel also offers high speed USB data cards that provide customers with 3G access on laptops. Airtel 3G services will be available in Maharashtra and Goa starting midnight on 4th August 2011.

Airtel 3G services are now available across all major parts in the region which include,

  • Pune
  • Nashik city
  • Nagpur city
  • Goa state

Airtel is already sending SMS to customers in Maharashtra and Goa to inform them about the launch of 3G services in their area. Here are few messages I got from Airtel,

Skype for iPad now in iOS App Store

Skype for iPad makes its debut in the iOS App Store. The App was expected to be released in late June but due to some unknown reasons it was delayed till now. Skype for its iPad users brings its live video chat service on both Wi-Fi and 3G data connections. This version of the Skype supports near about same features as in the iPhone version of Skype.

The Skype for iPad includes features like video chat, instant messaging, phone calls and access to your contacts. Instant messaging can also be done during video chat. This feature was not available in the iPhone version of Skype.

No longer the app appeared in the iOS app store, Skype pulled it saying that it was prematurely released. Its Twitter feed said,

“To ensure your best Skype experience, we’ve temporarily removed Skype for iPad which went live prematurely today.”

The Skype for iPad App can call anyone using Skype whether its desktop or an iOS device.

UPDATE: The Skype for iPad App is back in iOS Store.

Installing DarkyROM 10.2 Resurrection on Samsung Galaxy S

All people owning a Samsung Galaxy S must definitely install Darky ROM 10.2!
Today I’m going to show you how to install a DarkyROM 10.2 Resurrection Edition, which means you get the cleanest ROM possible!
Thanks to Darky and Ficeto, you can now experience a faster, smoother and better performance on your Samsung Galaxy S like never before!

DarkyROM 10.2 features:

Before flashing you need to ensure couple of things:

  1. Make sure your lagfix is on be4 flashing DarkyROM 10.2 RE, this is needed for the following reason,
    Lagfix ON: you’ll get GGB Launcher and the new Market
    LagfixOFF: you will not get the above two apps (/data will still be converted to EXT4)
    To turn on lagfix on a Gingerbread ROM install Voodoo kernel.
  2. Make sure you charge your phone to 100% before starting the flashing process, this is reduce your efforts to re-calibrate it later on.

The instructions for flashing this ROM are pretty simple:

  1. You need to download the DarkyROM_10.2_Resurrection package from here.
  2. Extract the downloaded package, inside which you will find the following things,
  3. Enter Download Modevol-down + home + power by pressing power button + home button + vol down button simultaneously.
  4. Open the extracted folder, start Odin 1.3.
  5. Very important, Make sure Kies is off.
  6. Connect the USB cable to your phone.
  7. Ensure that you see something written in ID:COM after connecting your device.
  8. Now you have to select the PIT by selecting s1_odin_20100512.pit file from the extracted folder.
  9. Remember you have to tick repartition.
  10. Select the PDA.tar it into PDA section in Odin.
  11. Now press start.
  12. Your phone will restart.(You should see green color and PASS above ID:COM field)
  13. You can now disconnect the USB cable from your phone.

Note: If you miss any apps, do not worry! They are backed up on your sdcard and you can use DarkyROM Tool to install whatever you need.
